Jeans tech packs · $299 per style

Jeans tech pack, ready for your factory.

A pair of jeans is sewn raw, then the laundry does the real work. We spec the wash, the after-wash measurements the factory grades against, and every rivet, button, bar-tack and topstitch row by position.

Where it goes wrong

Where denim fails: the wash.

The sewing room can hit every number and the laundry can still push the pair out of tolerance. Most denim failures start on a page the spec never wrote.

  1. Measurements specced before wash

Raw denim shrinks when washed and twill skews, so a waistband can come back smaller than it was sewn. Graded pre-wash, the error stacks into the largest and smallest sizes.

In the spec after-wash measurements, graded on the after-wash figure, with inspection measured against it.

  2. A wash described in one word

Raw, rinse, stone, enzyme, whiskering and hand-sand are different processes with different results. Each one also changes the finished size.

In the spec wash type and sequence, whisker and hand-sand placement drawn, wash approval step.

  3. Hardware the factory can substitute

Rivets, the shank button and the fly closure are half the BOM. Name them loosely and you get whatever the factory stocks.

In the spec zip or button fly in full (brand, length, gauge), shank button diameter and finish, rivet material, finish and position.

  4. Back pockets set by eye

A back pocket a centimeter off reads as a defect. The stitch design on it is often the brand signature, and the factory cannot invent it.

In the spec pocket size, position down from the waist seam and in from the side seam, stitch design drawn row by row.

  5. Loops and bar-tacks left to the line

Belt loops, the fly bottom and the pocket corners are stress points. Count, width and bar-tack position all carry a number.

In the spec belt loop count and width, bar-tack at each end, rivet or bar-tack at every corner, topstitch Tex and color.

Numbers match the balloons on the drawing. Source: our denim and jeans tech pack guide.

Points of measure

Eight points, all after wash.

The figure the customer buys is the washed one, so it is the figure we grade and the inspector measures. Every row gets a base size, a grade and a tolerance.

After wash. Inseam held at one length here and offered in length blocks (for example 30, 32, 34 inches) instead of graded by waist size.
  • Waist and hip take the biggest step between sizes; rise, thigh and leg opening move in smaller steps.
  • Stretch denim changes recovery across sizes and often needs a tighter grade than rigid.
  • The wash page and the measurement page have to agree, or the factory cannot hit both.

After wash, always. Raw denim shrinks and twill skews once laundered, so we grade against the after-wash figure and say clearly that inspection measures against it.

Every rivet, the fly closure, the waistband button and all bar-tacks: the zip by brand, length and gauge, rivet material and finish, button type and diameter, each with a position on the flat.

Yes. A denim jacket leans on wash, hardware and topstitching, and is often unlined, so the interior seam finish becomes its own construction line. Each garment is its own style.

In ounces per square yard with a tolerance, together with the loom, the yarn and any elastane percentage, since weight changes drape, cost and how the denim washes.
