Before the pages

Flats start on the wall and the table.

Before a page is drawn cleanly, sketches get pinned up, compared with the sample and marked up. That is where the questions a factory would ask get answered.

  • Team at a white table reviewing flat sketches and color swatches, with flats pinned on the wall
    Reviewing flats with swatches
  • Cork board with flat sketches, color cards and a shoe reference

  • Sketches and reference photos taped to a white studio wall

  • Fashion sketches and fabric swatches pinned to a wall

  • Designer holding a coffee and tablet, pointing at sketches pinned on a wall

What each page answers

Every page answers a question your factory would ask.

A factory quotes and sews from what is on the page. If a question is not answered there, it comes back to you by email, or the factory guesses.

  • 1Cover

Which style, which sizes, which fabric?

Style number, size range, base size, fabric and colorways in one title block.

  • 2Flats

What does it look like from every side?

Front and back line drawings, stitch lines dashed, every detail called out.

  • 3Points of measure

How big in every size, and how far off is OK?

Each measurement lettered on the flat, graded across sizes, with a tolerance.

123456
EX-01 crewneck tee · example
  • 4Bill of materials

What fabric, thread, trims and labels, and how many?

Every component with its spec, placement and quantity, so nothing gets substituted.

  • 5Construction

Which stitch, which seam finish, where?

Operation by operation: neck, shoulders, side seams, hems, pockets.

  • 6Revision log

    Which version is the latest?

Each change after a fit sample is logged, so the factory never sews an old version.

Industry examples

How good tech packs look across the industry.

Pages made by other designers and studios, shown with their credit and permission. Compare the flats, the measurement tables and the callouts: the same things a factory looks for in yours. Tap a page to see it larger.

Credited industry examples, not GarmentSpec work. Each credit links to the original pin.

More pages by other designers

Good tech packs look alike: clear, measured, complete.
